Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) and project workers from the National Foundation for Australian Women (NFAW) and the University of Melbourne have collaborated to develop an online access point that links together historical detail, archival resources, published resources and current information about women in Victoria.

The website, First Ladies: Finding Women in Public Record Office Victoria (www.womenaustralia.info/exhib/fl/firstladies.htm) is an online guide to archival resources relating to women held at Public Record Office Victoria. Published material such as PROV’s Ten Victorian Women and the Australian Women’s Archive Project (AWAP) online register, (www.womenaustralia.info/register_home.htm) are key features on the website.

While the First Ladies website is supported by PROV and provides information about PROV holdings, it is managed by AWAP project workers located at the University of Melbourne.

More information can be found on the National Foundation for Australian Women (NFAW) and the Australian Women’s Archive Project (AWAP) at the following sources:

National Foundation for Australian Women

The NFAW aims to advance and protect the interests of Australian women and to ensure the aims, ideals and the collective wisdom of the women's movement are handed on to new generations of women.

Australian Women’s Archive Project

The searchable-on-line Register of the Archives Project is a collection of biographical data about Australian women and their organizations, with hyper-links to their web-sites, and to the archival repositories where their records are held. This Register is a joint project of the National Foundation for Australian Women, and the History Department of the University of Melbourne.

The National Foundation for Australian Women established the Archives Project in 2000, to encourage Australian women and their organizations to preserve their records. This Register is one element of the AWAP- it is a finding tool for those records.
