The Upper Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges Authority was established under the Upper Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges Authority Act 1976 (No.8968). It commenced operation in the following year.
The object of the Authority as defined in section 3 of the Act was to enable increased protection for the special features and character of the region and to provide for the implementation of statements of planning policy approved from time to time under the Town and Country Planning Act 1961 which relate to the region.
The Authority was wound up in 1995 under the Planning Authorities Repeal Act 1994 (No.118).
