In 1968 a Ministry for Aboriginal Affairs was established under the provisions of the Aboriginal Affairs Act 1967 (No.7571).

In December 1974 under the provisions of the Commonwealth Aboriginal Affairs (Arrangements with the States) Act 1973 (No.115) and the Victorian Aboriginal Affairs (Transfer of Functions) Act (No.8608) the Ministry was abolished and it's staff transferred to the Commonwealth in January 1975.

Location of Records

Most of the records of the Ministry were transferred to the Commonwealth with the function and some have subsequently been transferred to the custody of Australian Archives in Victoria.
