How to use the Records
Consult VPRS 3681 File Registration Cards for the Numbers and Subjects of files. The Records Description List for VPRS 10256 gives the range of file numbers contained in each unit.
Function / Content
These records were kept by the Latrobe Valley Development Advisory Committee as part of the records required to assist it in its function of advising the Government regarding the development of the important resources of the Latrobe Valley. Records relate to all aspects of Latrobe Valley planning and development including the exploitation of the brown coal resources of the area and the development of the social and economic infrastructure.
Recordkeeping System
Files are arranged by a major alphabetical category which has been given a corresponding Serial Number. This Serial Number is followed by a file number. Files also have subject names. The numbers and subject names of files in this series may be found by consulting VPRS 3681 File Registration Cards.
Correspondence received by the Committee was registered in VPRS 12155 Registers of Inwards Correspondence. VPRS 3681 File Registration Cards was then consulted. These gave the authorised subject classifications and the corresponding file numbers for the file upon which the correspondence was placed.
