  • How to use the Records
    Simply request the unit and look through the file.

  • Function / Content
    This series is a file containing what are presumed to be samples of certificates and diplomas issued by the Education Department.

    The great majority of the certificates on this file are teaching certificates to be awarded to teachers certifying their competency to teach the subject specified. The file also includes certificates and diplomas for students completing technical school subjects/courses.

    It is unclear why the file was created. Based on letters attached to several of the most recent certificates, the file was probably maintained by Education Department staff responsible for the design of the certificates, in order to provide evidence of previous designs. It cannot be concluded, however, that all of the designs on the file were subsequently accepted and used by the Department.

    Almost all of the samples on this file are blank (i.e these do not identify the names of individuals presented with the certificates).
