Description of this Series
How to use the Records
As at 2003, the records were not transferred into archival custody.
The correspondence in this series was arranged in chronological order by date of letter. An alphabetical listing of addresses or name of the recipient of each outgoing letter in the front cover of the volume/folder provides access to the contents of the volume.
Refer to the consignment details and call up the volume/folder for the appropriate year.
Function / Content
This series consists of copies of outward correspondence, bound into volumes/filed in folders in chronological order by date of letter. The letters relate to the regulation of explosives, including their manufacture, transport, storage, sale, inspection and licensing. The series also documents the regulation of LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) from 1968.
Recordkeeping System
The volumes/folders were arranged chronologically. The letters were arranged chronologically by date of the letter. Each letter had a number. An index by addressee of the letter in the front cover provides folio number references to the letter.
The correspondence of the Explosives and Gas Examining Branch was registered and controlled within a subject-based system. The recordkeeping system comprised the following series:
VPRS 12363 Register of General Correspondence (Inward), Annual Single Number System (Explosives and Gas Examining Branch)
VPRS 12365 General Correspondence Subject Files, Gas (Explosives and Gas Examining Branch)
VPRS 12367 Outward Letter Books, LPG (Explosives and Gas Examining Branch)
VPRS 12366 Outward Letter Books (Explosives and Gas Examining Branch) (this series)
VPRS 12364 General Correspondence Subject Files, Explosives (Explosives and Gas Examining Branch)
VPRS 12362 Chief Inspector of Explosives' General Correspondence Files, Single Number System.
