  • How to use the Records
    As both extant volumes cover the same date range, any particular name might be in either volume. Therefore both volumes might need to be consulted.

    Refer to the index in the front cover of each volume. The index is arranged alphabetically by the surname of the employee. The index provides the page reference number of the volume.

  • Function / Content
    The series consists of a Loco Running Service and Conduct Register. The series summarised employment and conduct record of employees.

    The information recorded for an employee includes:

    -- Name of the employee, date of birth, marital status, position held (cleaners, drivers, fireman), rate of pay,
    -- Record Number (correspondence registration number which is an annual single number with the Branch name, Locomotive/Rolling Stock, Secretary's Branch correspondence registration number.
    -- Statement of action taken (suspended, transferred, supplied with a copy of the Rule Book).
