Report of the Peoples Conference - Corowa 2001 published by Centenary of Federation Victoria. The Conference was held in Corowa, NSW on 1 - 2 December 2001.
The P1 consignment consists of a printed version of the Report. The Report was forwarded to PROV by the Mayor of Corowa on behalf of Centenary of Federation Victoria in June 2002.
The P2 consignment consists of audio recordings of the Proceedings of the Conference on five audio cassettes and a CD-ROM.
According to the introduction to the Report the Conference was inspired by the Corowa Conference 1893. The Conference aimed to do two things, 1. To express an opinion on whether an early resolution of the head of state issue was desirable. 2. To recommend a practical process to enable the Australian people to decide whether the Australian federation should separate from the monarchy.
The Peoples conference was organised jointly by the Corowa Shire Council NSW, the volunteers of the Melbourne Working Group and Centenary of Federation Victoria. Broadly what had to be done in Corowa was done by the Corowa Shire Council, and what could be done away from Corowa was done by the Melbourne Working Group and the Centenary of Federation Victoria.
The Report includes a description of the origins of the Conference, organisation, those invited, budget, publicity, pre-conference debates and ballot, reports of all sessions, proposals, final presentations, questions from the floor, statements of propositions, final ballot on proposals, implementing the Corowa Plan, the Nineteen Process Proposals, conference structure and program, final program, standing orders, overview of preferential voting, and a list of attending conference members.
The records of Centenary of Federation Victoria VA 4387 were transferred to the PROV in March 2002 at the time of closure of the agency. At that time Mr Richard McGarvie was still finalising the Report of the Conference. Arrangements were made for a copy of the Report to be placed in the PROV holdings as a record of Centenary of Federation Victoria. The copy in VPRS 13012/P1 was sent to PROV on behalf of CFV by the Corowa Shire Council in June 2002. The audio recordings in the P2 Consignment were forwarded to PROV by Richard McGarvie in July 2002.
