  • Function / Content
This series consists of the register of inward correspondence reeceived by the Surveyor-General from the Colonial Secretary (1854 - 1855) and the Chief Secretary (1855). Details given are the number allocated the letter, the date and the Colonial or Chief Secretary's outward reference number, a summary of the subject of the letter and the substance of any reply.

Subjects dealt with in the correspondence are authorisations for staff appointments and expenditure, matters relating to the performance of surveys, arrangements for auctions of Crown land and the proclamation of township areas, requests for descriptions for sales of land under pre-emptive right and the provision of details for insertion in leases and Deeds of Grant.

The actual correspondence might be able to be found in VPRS 44 Inwards Registered and Unregistered Correspondence with the Consignment Details references of Colonial Secretary and Chief Secretary. Inward correspondence from officials and persons other than the Colonial Secretary and Chief Secretary was registered in VPRS 14255 Register of Inward Correspondence.
