  • How to use the Records
    This series consists of a register of inward correspondence. The correspondence relates to the general administration of the Asylum. This volume may have once been part of a larger series however it is the only record presumed extant.

    Each letter was allocated a sequential number from the register upon receipt. Details recorded in the register include:

    when the letter was received,
    number and date of document,
    nature of document,
    how the letter was disposed of.

    Entries are arranged chronologically by date of receipt.

    Apart from the patient's admission warrants, the correspondence from the period 1875 to 1879 is not presumed extant. However correspondence for the period 1911 to 1927 is held by the Public Record Office, see VPRS 7528.
