Description of this Series
Description of this Series
How to use the Records
This series comprises permits for liquor to be consumed, supplied or sold at an unlicensed place or at a licensed place after established drinking hours for particular instances such as birthdays, dances, engagements, fund raisers etc. Permits are in the form of a duplicate copy of the application endorsed by the Licensing Inspector of the relevant licensing area and subsequently forwarded to the Liquor Control (Licensing) Commission. As at 1990, approximately 20,000 such applications are processed annually.
The series is arranged in an annual single number sequence imposed by the Commission when the permit was received. Detail contained on the permit includes information regarding the applicant, location and occasion.
Sample detail
The Series in custody is a sample of the larger series, retained for evidential purposes according to the provisions of Public Record Office disposal schedule 88/4. According to class 11.1.0 of the schedule, one bundle of 500 permits is to be retained from every fifth year. The remaining permits are destroyed after a period of 3 years.
The P1 consignment of this series (1980 - 1987) contains in excess of the sampling requirement for this period. Additional bundles were selected to compensate for the lack of extant files dating from the commencement of the series (assessed to date from 1968 to 1979). It appears that such files were destroyed prior to drafting of the schedule.
