Description of this SeriesDescription of this Series
  • How to use the Records
    System of Arrangement/Control

Series : alphabetical arrangement of folders (with the exception of some folders whose lesser used alphabetical characters housed like subject groupings eg tenders, reports)

    Range of Control Symbols

    Series in Custody : A to W (P missing)

Contents in Custody : none apparent

This series contains mainly inward correspondence received by the Fitzroy, Northcote and Preston Tramways Trust between 1915 and 1920, which covers (and predates) the years of the Trust's operation from 1915 to 1920.

The content of the P1 consignment were found inside a dilapidated cardboard expanding file and the contents were divided between the alphabetical compartments. The original system of arrangement and control has been preserved, but the contents of each section of the file have been transferred to separate (alphabetical) folders. All folders have alphabetical control symbols and some have subject headings as well. Sometimes there is no apparent link between the alphabetical control symbol and the folder contents. e.g. P-Q Tenders.

    Series Includes:

    - Inward correspondence relating to construction of tramway lines in Northcote

    - Applications for employment (including those of returned servicemen)

    - Financial records

    - Papers relating to transfers of the Trust's function to M & MTB

    - Papers relating to the acquisition of land

    - Tenders and specifications of contractual work (including blueprints)

    - Reports to Municipal Councils

    - A Supplementary Report on Proposed Electric Tramway for Fitzroy, Northcote, Preston

    - A Plan showing Electric Tramways to be constructed by the MBCTT and those proposed for Fitzroy, Northcote, Preston

The contents date range is 1899 to 1920. The reason for the discrepancy between the series date range and the contents date range can be found in file I-J. Housed in that file were applications for the position of inspector. Contained therein were references dated some years prior to the applications.
