    This series lists in sequential arrangement by account number, the different account titles utilized by the Prahran and Malvern Tramway Trust to manage their ledger accounts.

    The P1 consignment comprises a list of Revenue Account, account numbers and Capital Account, account titles. Printing on the cover of the folder indicates that the list was either compiled by the Secretary of the Trust or that this was the Secretary's copy. It is dated 30May1910.

    The Revenue Account is divided by several sub-headings as follows:

    - Traffic Expenses : Account Numbers 1 - 8
    - General Expenses : Account Numbers 9 - 17
    - General Repairs and Maintenance : Account Numbers 18 - 24
    - Power Expenses : Account Numbers 25 - 28

    Of the twenty-eight account numbers listed three have no account title or details provided. The remaining twenty-five numbers each have an account title listed and most also show details of the items that could be charged against the accounts.

    The Capital Account list is simply a list of ten account titles. Six of these also appear in the previous list of account numbers.

    The exceptions are:

    Land;
    Miscellaneous Equipment;
    Office Furniture etc; and
    Preliminary Expenses.

    Some of the exceptions may be included in Account Number 16, Miscellaneous.

    The accounts listed in this series relate to accounts documented in VPRS 7937, Accounting Records: General. The ledgers included in that series each contain an index to the accounts dealt with in the ledgers.

    It would appear that the list and classification of the accounts in this series was created to specify and clarify the items which were chargeable against the accounts documented in the ledgers in VPRS 7937.

    Using the Records

    This series may be of use to researchers who wish to access revenue and expenditure information, for specific items, contained in VPRS 7937. Relevant accounts recorded in the ledgers in that series are identified by both title and account number. The journals sometimes contain references to the ledger accounts by account number only.


    Conservation Statement

    P1 consignment consists of a double foolscap, dark green, soft card folder containing six foolscap sheets. Sheets are printed single sided with purple, carbon-copy type. Some red ink writing. Cover printed with purple typewriter ink plus red ink. Contents of folder fastened by three brass split-fasteners which pass from the front of the folder, through the sheets and the back of the folder. Fasteners are located down the left hand edge of the folder.
