    THIS SERIES INDEXES SOME FILES IN VPRS 567 MINING COMPANY REGISTRATION FILES BY NAME OF MINING COMPANY AND ALL FILES IN VPRS 10316 BY NAME OF PROSPECTING SYNDICATE. For a complete index to VPRS 567 see card index to mining companies in Laverton Search Room and VPRS 125 Microfilm Copy of Card Index to Mining Companies at City Search Room.

    Information in this index is arranged alphabetically by mining company name and prospecting syndicate name.

    Purpose/Function

    This series indexes defunct mining company registration files and prospecting syndicate files. The index gives name of company, the mining company/prospecting syndicate registration number, and a date of deregistration or gazettal notice of deregistration. It is not known for what exact purpose this record was compiled.

    The volume also has a column heading marked Folio no., but as this has not been used throughout the volume there is no indication to what other record it was intended to refer.

    The record only indexes some mining companies which became defunct between the late 1930s and 1972. Not all mining companies which ceased to function in this period are listed. All registered prospecting syndicates are indexed.

    It is hard to clarify on what basis the entries were made, it appears to be either the date of deregistration or the date of gazettal notice of deregistration.

    Date Range

    This series appears to have been first compiled around 1947 though earlier entries from around 1939 have at a later stage also been indexed. The last entry added pertains to a company deregistered in 1972, though most entries relate to 1966.
