- How to use the Records
At the front of the register is an A - Z index, listing teachers in alphabetical order by surname, and providing the relevant folio number of the page containing that teachers details. Researchers should consult the A - Z index to determine which page contains information on the teacher that they are interested in.
- Function / Content
For entries made between 1914 and 1928, the register lists the teachers name, the date they commenced employment and the name and number of the school that they were employed at.
Entries made between 1929 and 1940 are headed Applicants for appointment as teacher in a subsidised school and list the date of application, applicants name and address, d.o.b., qualifications and experience and name and number of school to which they were appointed.
A later segment of the register is headed Returned Soldiers Applications for Employment. This section begins with an index listing applicants names in alphabetical order, with the relevant folio number provided. The entries list the date of application, applicants name, sent for training at (school #), report on performance, remarks (date appointed, date withdrew, etc.).
