  • How to use the Records
    In order to locate the record for an individual employee, first select the volume for the period in which the employee was employed. Next use the alphabetical index within the front cover to find the folio number for an employee's record within the volume.

    In some cases the complete record for an employee may be spread across more than one volume. These are easily identified by the presence of annotations on the page such as "see folio 172 and book 2". In such cases note the relevant folio number and search or browse the Consignment Details to retrieve the appropriate book.

  • Function / Content
    This series appears to have been created within the traffic operational area as a summary record of tramway traffic employees including conductors, gripmen, cleaners and shunters during the period 1885 to 1924.

    The information recorded includes name, occupation, commencement date, transfer, resignation, deceased, and any complaints received and action taken against an employee.

    This series was succeeded by VPRS 12739 Tramways Employees Record Cards.

  • Recordkeeping System
    The volumes appear to have commenced at different times. The date range covered by each volume overlaps.

    Each volume contains an alphabetical index which refers the user to the folio number within the volume.
