  • How to use the Records
    This series consists of items of correspondence, contracts and reports of the Melbourne and Suburban Railway Company. There was no discernable sytem of arrangement and control of the documents in place at the time of transfer into the custody of the Public Record Office.

    The contents of the series are listed under the Function/Content section of the series description.

  • Function / Content
    Below is a detailed description of the contents of the P0000 consignment:

    * Melbourne and Suburban Railway Contract No. 22: "Specifications and condition of works required for the construction of the line from south side of the River Yarra to the junction with the St Kilda and Brighton Railway near Chapel Street and for the construction of the line on the Hawthorn Branch from the south east side of the river. Yarra to the Boorandara Road".
    1859

    * Certified copy of the Deed of Transfer of the undertaking and property of the company from the Melbourne and Suburban Railway Company to Messieurs Glass, Clarke, Caldwell, Higgins, Joske and Filson.
    2 Apr 1862

    * Copy of transfer from the Trustee for sale of the St Kilda and Brighton Railway to the Melbourne and Hobson's Bay United Railway Company.
    1 Sep 1865

    * Copy of Conveyance of undertaking and property of the Melbourne and Hobson's Bay United Railway Company to the Board of Land and Works.
    1 Jul 1879

    * Partial Copy of Agreement between the Directors of the Melbourne and Hobsons Bay Limited Railway Company and the Honorable Graham Berry, Chief Secretary of Victoria, relating to the sale and purchase of the undertaking and property of the company.
    6 Jul 1878

    * Copy of an Act to alter an enactment respecting the opening with a double line of rails of the Melbourne and Suburban Railway and to substitute another provision in lieu thereof.
