How to use the Records
The microfilm is available for viewing in the Reading Rooms and does not need to be pre-ordered. The exception is for teacher histories in the range of numbers 53800 - 54199 inclusive which at present (January 2008) can only be accessed through the hard copy series VPRS 13579.
Researchers should consult VPRS 13719 Database Index to Teacher Record Books to ascertain the record number of the teacher(s) for whom they are searching.
Researchers should then consult the records details for this series to identify the unit(s) required.

Function / Content
The majority of this series is a microfilm copy of VPRS 13579 Teacher Record Books.
The original series VPRS 13579 was created to provide a summary of the working history of each teacher in government service in Victoria. These were microfilmed by the Education Department as a preservation measure during the 1980s.
Although the information contained within the volumes does change over the years, essentially entry states:
The name of the teacher
Their date of birth
(Sometimes) Place of birth
Roll No. (the School Number)
Classification (this is that of the teacher, based on assessment, promotions etc.)
Authority (the date the teacher commenced at a particular school) and
Remarks
The last records from VPRS 13579 are in Unit 7. At this point a copy begins of VPRS 13974 Teacher Inventory by School (with the front-page title "Staff Book (1)"), continuing in Unit 8.
