  • How to use the Records
    There is no index to the files. The files are arranged in alpha-numeric order based on the subject of the files.

    Check the Authorised List of File Classifications for the subject of interest and the period being researched. Check the Records Description List for the General Correspondence Files, Alpha-Numeric System and call up the relevant units.

    An alternative approach is to consult the Records Description List for this series and call up the required units.

  • Function / Content
    This series comprises correspondence files maintained by the Council. The files contain inward and copies of outward correspondence relating to all functions undertaken by the Council.

    There is considerable overlapping of dates with files of the same title.

    Correspondence that pre-dated this record keeping system was top-numbered into this system.

    The files were registered with an alpha-numeric code based on a subject classification system
