  • How to use the Records
    Refer to the consignment details to retrieve the required index. The volume is divided into alphabetical sections.

    Once you have the case number, refer to the consignment details for VPRS 1400 for appeals from district courts of mines and VPRS 1401for appeals from the Court of General Session.

    Note:
    VPRS 16280 index for Special Cases on Appeal from the District Courts of Mines & Special Cases on Appeal from the Court of General Sessions are in the same volume (unit one) although they are indices to two different sets of records, the same volume has been used, for a page opening the left hand side had the mining cases and the right hand side had the Appeals from the court of general sessions. The Courts of Mines apparently ceased to operate early in the twentieth century. Unit 2 does not reference to mining cases but only criminal appeals.

    This name index (appellant's name) was created to provide access to appeals from the Courts of Mines and from the Courts of General Sessions. The case files are located in VPRS 1400 Special Cases on Appeals from the District Courts of Mine and VPRS 1401 Special Cases on Appeal from the Court of General Session (Criminal Jurisdiction).

    Details recorded includes the names of appellant (recorded alphabetically) and the respondents and the case number.
