Description of this Series
How to use the Records
Scan or browse the Consignment Details and retrieve the timetable for the event, and the period, of interest.
Function / Content
This series comprises working timetables for special occasions. Working timetables were those distributed for internal use and were not available to the general public.
Special circumstances included either annual holidays or major events such as Easter, Christmas, New Year, Royal Show, Australia Day, Labour Day, Melbourne Cup and Royal visits. It also included other one-off events that required the re-scheduling of train tables, for example, Metropolitan School's Sports Day, Association of Railway Enthusiasts Christmas Outing, and changes in the scheduling of goods and service trains to regional areas.
Recordkeeping System
The P and P2 consignments consist of working timetables for special events affecting suburban services prepared by the Office of the Chief Traffic Manager. Timetables were arranged with an annual single file number. Each year a new timetable for each holiday period or special event was created.
The P1 consignment consists of alterations to timetables from the Office of the Chief Traffic Manager to cater for one-off special events and changes in the transportation of goods and stock. Included also are directions (memoranda) from the Office of the Chief Traffic Manager outlining changes to timetables.
Timetables were arranged in booklets and controlled with an annual single file number sequence with a W.T.T (working timetable) prefix. The annual single number denoted the consecutive number of the timetable followed by the last two numbers of the respective calender year in which the timetable was issued.
Related Series
See VPRS 13291 Working Time Tables (PTC 276) and VPRS 13292 Public Time Tables (PTC 277) for both suburban and regional reference sets of working and public timetables.
General Appendix to the Book of Rules and Regulations and to the Working Time Tables, an internal publication issued to staff outlining staff regulations is located in VPRS 5753 Victorian Railways Rules and Regulations.
