- How to use the Records
This series should be consulted to determine when a particular special case was registered, and for case numbers 1 - 1149, the registration numbers of documents placed on the file.
Consult the index at the front of the register and note the special case number and page number of the register recorded for the schools, people, or subjects of interest.
This series has been digitised and is available online. Access to the digitised records is available via the physical records details pages.
- Function / Content
This series was created to register the special case files (VPRS 892) created by the Education Department and its predecessors and to record the registration numbers of correspondence items placed on the files. The register lists the special case number, school name(s), roll number(s) or the file title, the parties involved or the subject of the special case and the registration numbers of the correspondence on the file.
At the front of the register there is an alphabetical index to schools, parties and subjects and the relevant page number of the register.
- Recordkeeping System
As special case files were created, they were allocated the next available number from the register. The numbers were allocated sequentially, e.g., 1, 2, 3, etc. The files were arranged in registration number order (VPRS 892 Special Case Files).
An index to cases, in alphabetical order, was kept at the front of the register to facilitate retrieval of case files. In addition, a separate index, VPRS 5675 Index to Special Case Files, in alphabetical order by proper names and subjects was created. It may be more comprehensive that the index found at the front of the register.
Further research into the recordkeeping system is required.
