  • How to use the Records
    This series provides a subject index to the Registers of Despatches (VPRS 1404) covering items sent by the British Secretary of State responsible for the administration of the Colonial Office to the Governor of Victoria. Although Registers exist from 1851, this series only dates from 1873 as previous registers contained an index inside the cover. Entries are made alphabetically and detail the subject and page number in the register. The exception is item 4 which details despatch numbers instead of page references. The despatches themselves are in VPRS 1087.
