    Contents in custody : contents were arranged in a rough alphabetical sequence by surname of employee. Entries were not arranged in any discernable order within each alphabetical character.

    This series is a register of employee's service records for the Melbourne, Brunswick, and Coburg Tramways Trust and, after 1920, the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board : Northern System. The register served to record details of leave granted, misdemeanours dealt with and promotions, demotions, dismissals etc.

    A standard format provides for the inclusion of the following information in each entry:

    - Full name and address
    - Date of birth & marital status
    - Application number, register number, badge number & medical certificate number
    - Date of entry to service & date of permanent appointment
    - Last position held & rate of wages received at last place of employment

    Within the register employees are listed in alphabetical sequence. However, in the top righthand corner of each page a register number is stamped in blue. This may indicate an additional record keeping system for employee's service records used by the agency and arranged numerically in Register number order, which appears to be no longer extant and was not located at the time of transfer to the Public Record Office.
